Apply for an identifier
Personalised log-in details are usually required to access the IT systems at Universität Hamburg.
The allocation of these details depends on the type of affiliation with Universität Hamburg or the type of IT system used, and cannot be done automatically in all cases.
It may therefore be necessary to submit an application.
Who does not need to apply for an identifier?
Members of Universität Hamburg - students and staff - automatically receive a personal authorisation (user ID) for IT use as part of their studies or official duties.
This means that enrolled students and regular employees of the University do not normally have to apply for a user ID.
Employees seconded to the university and FHH trainees are an exception. This group of people cannot currently be automatically provided with a user ID and must apply for an ID
More information on the user ID can be found here.
Who has to apply for an identifier?
- All persons who are not covered by the automatic assignment of user IDs are regarded here in the broadest sense and in a very simplified manner as "external".
- For example, this group of people includes
- FHH employees and trainees seconded to the UHH
- Visiting scientists and scholars
- External service providers
- Scientific staff of the UKE
- Former members of the university who wish to continue using the university's IT resources (detailed justification required)
- For example, this group of people includes
This group of people must use the application portal and contact an authorised signatory at the respective institution to apply for a user ID.
More information on the user ID for external users can be found here.
- Persons who have a teaching assignment (referred to here as lecturers for short) are also not always covered by the automatic allocation of user IDs.
- This group of persons generally includes
- Professors within the meaning of § 17 HmbHG
- Private Lecturers within the meaning of § 17 HmbHG
- Cooperation partners in the context of inter-university degree programmes
- Lecturer
This group of people must therefore also apply for an identifier.
In many cases, user IDs for lecturers can be issued via the Teaching assignment management
You can find more information on the user ID for lecturers here.
Who can apply for additional identifiers?
UHH employees can apply for additional types of identification that are intended for specific purposes.
- These are, for example
- WLAN guest IDs to grant individual persons or entire groups, such as conference participants, access to the university's WLAN.
- T-identifiers, e.g. to enable access to individual, specific IT systems.
- Short-term identifiers, for training courses, conferences or meetings that require more services than the university's WLAN
All the different types of identifiers are described here.
