Printing for students
Double-sided printing
Double-sided printing (duplex) is the default setting for the publicly accessible PoolPrinter_SW and PoolPrinter_Farbe printers. This helps to save energy and materials, thereby protecting the environment.
Please check that the settings for duplex printing are correct before printing.
Multi-page printing
By selecting the “Pages per sheet” option on the “Finishing” tab in the printer properties, you can ensure that two or more pages are scaled down accordingly and printed on one sheet of A4 paper, and that only one page is deducted from your print quota.
If necessary, check whether the text is still legible by printing out one page first.
To avoid misunderstandings: A4 must always be selected as the paper size.
Select the correct paper size
The black-and-white printers only accept DIN A4 paper, while the color printers accept DIN A4 and DIN A3 paper. Incorrect formats can cause malfunctions in the printer. Commonly misidentified formats include Letter and B5.
Please ensure that you select the correct paper format in your software application.
Avoid blank pages
If your print job contains blank pages, for example at the end of a chapter, these pages will be counted and charged to your account. It is therefore best to remove blank pages from your document before printing.
Set print area
When printing a web page, for example, its length in A4 print pages may not be clear from the outset. You have the option of restricting the print area in the print window, for example to pages 1 to 2. The default setting here is usually ‘Print all’.
Check layout
It is well known that errors can occur in the layout of documents created with different versions of software applications (e.g., Office 2016 and Office 2019 or Office 365).
Check the layout before printing to avoid costly misprints. In Office, for example, you can check the layout using the page view.
Incorrectly sent print jobs
Print jobs accidentally sent to a color printer will not be credited. Please make sure you send your print job to the correct printer!
Check print status
For documents such as PDF files with embedded images, the print cluster may take a little longer to calculate the price. In this case, the print job is not yet in the printer queue. If you want to check at your workstation whether your print job is already available for printing, use the iPrint client information on the document status.
On Windows devices in the RRZ, right-click on the iPrint icon in the info bar and select “Document Status.” Only documents that are visible there are already available for printing.
