High-Performance Computing (HPC)
HPC resources (Linux cluster architectures)
- Linux-Cluster „Hummel-2“ at RRZ is a Major Research Instrumentation as per Art. 91b of the Basic Law for Germany (Forschungsgroßgerät nach Art. 91b GG) which was installed for scientific projects that need a parallel computing resource.
- NHR (Nationales Hochleistungsrechnen) provides HPC resources at the next larger scale, in particular the systems at the former HLRN sites in Berlin and Göttingen. Access to both NHR systems can be requested through their service portal. For questions on NHR users from Universität Hamburg can contact the HPC team at RRZ.
Scientific Remote Desktops (virtual workstations)
- Scientific Remote Desktops (SRDs) are virtual workstation operated by RRZ. SRDs were introduced in order to provide access to hardware that is more powerful than the user's desktop computer (offering more CPU cores, larger memory and possibly a general purpose GPU). An SRD has more compute power than a typical desktop but considerably less than a Linux cluster.
