Wired guest access: wired-guest
The wired guest access service allows even unregistered or personal devices to be connected to the UHH’s data network via LAN. Access to the internet must then be authorised by logging in with a guest ID.
UHH staff can order guest accounts in advance via the RRZ Service Portal using the relevant service.
Members of the UHH who have a user ID can, as an alternative, authenticate themselves by establishing a VPN connection and logging in with their B-ID. Once logged in, they will then have access to the UHH’s central services as well as the internet.
Wired guest access is not yet available in all UHH buildings, but is gradually being rolled out in an increasing number of buildings.
Wired guest access (wired-guest) is already available in the following buildings:
- Bu56 Min-Forum/Informatikum
- Bu57 Haus-der-Erde
- Fe71a neues Gästehaus der UHH
Instructions for use
Connect your device to an available network socket. Each device requires its own connection. The use of mini-switches etc. is not permitted. The device must not attempt to log in to the network via 802.1X. Configure your device to obtain its IP address via DHCP (this is usually the default setting). Wait for the IP address to be assigned. If the IP address you have been assigned begins with “100.76.”, your device is connected to the UHH’s wired guest network. You can also verify this by checking the domain provided via DHCP in your device’s network settings; the domain “guest.uhh.roam.local.uni-hamburg.de” must be displayed there.
Some devices display a message stating that you need to log in to the network in order to use it to its full extent. If your device does not display anything of this sort, please open a web browser and go to the URL http://guest.uhh.de/. You will then be redirected to the guest portal’s login page:

Enter your guest ID and the corresponding password there, or close the webpage and set up a VPN connection if you have a B ID from the UHH. The VPN client software can be downloaded via a link at the bottom of the login page.
