Several serious security vulnerabilities have been patched in the Zoom software. Under certain conditions, participants in a Zoom meeting could have exploited these vulnerabilities to execute malicious code on the devices of other meeting participants.
Zoom has released the necessary security updates. To ensure the security of Zoom usage at the University of Hamburg, the RRZ will therefore raise the minimum version required to participate in Zoom meetings to Zoom Workplace 7.1.5.
After this change, it will no longer be possible to participate in Zoom meetings hosted or scheduled by the University of Hamburg using older versions of the Zoom app. If you attempt to join a meeting using an older version, you will first need to update the Zoom software.
What do you need to do?
If you use Zoom on a self-managed device (SMD), please update the Zoom Workplace app to version 7.1.5 or later. The update can be performed using the Zoom app’s built-in update feature or via the Zoom Download Center.
For devices centrally managed by the RRZ (FMD), the latest Zoom version is provided via central software distribution.
Joining via a Web Browser
Alternatively, you can join Zoom meetings directly through a supported web browser. Installing the Zoom Workplace app is not required for this. To do so, open the meeting invitation link and, on the Zoom webpage that appears, select the option to join via the browser.
Please note that the range of features may be somewhat limited when joining via the browser compared to the Zoom Workplace app.
