Due to security vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system that have recently come to light, ‘emergency updates/patches’ will be rolled out on ‘FMD’ devices administered by the RRZ on Thursday 10 September and Friday 11 September 2026.

These may require the device to be restarted.

A message will appear on the screen 15 minutes before the automatic restart to notify you. The restart will take place even if the device is locked but remains switched on. Please therefore save any open files before leaving your workstation if the computer remains switched on.

All other Windows systems connected to the central update management system will also download these updates and force the device to restart.
