Version control tool Subversion
The RRZ offers the open source product Subversion as a relatively simple tool for version management. A Subversion repository can be set up upon request.
Subversion is designed for the simple management of document versions (Office, PDF, TeX, etc.), source code (C, C++, Fortran, script languages, etc.) or configuration files. Subversion allows configurable access to a repository by different users, access to older versions, and comparison of different versions. Subversion is not intended for handling binary data or encrypted data. It is also not intended as a data backup tool. The central TSM backup offered by the RRZ serves this purpose.
To apply for and use a Subversion repository, you must have a valid user ID (B-ID). Further terms of use can be found in the “Subversion Policy.” Only university employees can obtain a repository. Students can obtain access rights to a repository from the owner of that repository.
Access to a repository on the Subversion server is via a client that must be installed on a PC or server. Such clients are available as free software for all common operating systems. Further information can be found under “Using.”
There are only two types of access rights: read-only and/or write access. There is no integrated wiki or issue tracking. If you need such functionalities, Gitlab is the tool of choice. However, Gitlab is also significantly more complex.
