Connection of computer systems for conference offices and speakers

At many locations within the University of Hamburg, it is possible to set up internet access for conference offices via a cable connection to the University of Hamburg’s data network. The Network Group of the Regional Computing Center (RRZ) installs the necessary connections for this purpose. Many lecture halls at the University of Hamburg are already equipped with Internet access via cable and/or Wi-Fi. Event organizers are responsible for providing the computers to be connected. The network interface of the systems is configured automatically via DHCP.

Internet access for participants via the RRZ’s public network access points

Event participants can be offered internet access via the Regional Computing Center’s public network access points. This access can be established using participants’ own laptops via Wi-Fi, and in some cases via cable. More detailed information can be found on the “Wi-Fi” page.

The credentials for Wi-Fi access via the “GUEST” SSID of the UHH access points can be generated very flexibly. For more information on access via the SSID GUEST, please visit this RRZ webpage.

Connection of Computer Systems in Stationary Computer Labs

Provided that a suitably equipped room is available, multiple data network connections for stationary computers can also be set up and made available to participants for use. Organizers are responsible for providing the necessary computers. In any case, participants require an individual user ID for access, which organizers can request in advance for all participants through the RRZ user administration (see below).

Information for Event Organizers

To prepare for an event, please contact the Service Line of the University of Hamburg’s Regional Computing Center. The Service Line staff can answer the vast majority of questions directly. Should further information be required, the Service Line will forward the inquiries to the appropriate RRZ staff members.

Information and Support for Event Participants

Should participants encounter any problems during the event, the service line is also available to assist them.

Installation of Data Network Connections (Communication Networks Department)

The Communication Networks Department of the RRZ provides the infrastructure for connecting computer systems to the University of Hamburg’s data network, both via wired connections and wirelessly via Wi-Fi access points. Event organizers are responsible for providing the computers themselves.

Requesting user IDs for event participants (User Administration)

To use the University of Hamburg’s public network access, participants need their own user IDs. Event organizers can request these from User Administration in advance of the event. The Service Line is also happy to assist with this.
