Quotas, Access and Functional Restrictions

The web space provided is subject to quotas. The maximum size is 20 GB. This can be increased by arrangement. Please contact the RRZ service line for more information. Quotas are imposed in the interests of stable and secure operation.

Furthermore, for security reasons, login via ssh/sftp on the web application server is restricted to the university network (*.uni-hamburg.de). Use the UHH VPN client for external ssh access.

The home directory for an ID cannot be used as web space; the Apache module mod_userdir is intentionally not integrated. However, certain subdirectories in the home directory can be used as include directories for PHP or as storage locations for passwords for local access protection. Details can be found in the info email that will be sent to you when you set up your web space.

You cannot access the Apache configuration file for your vhost. The Apache configuration “AllowOverride All” and “Options Includes Indexes FollowSymLinks” is set for the individual vhosts. If you need additional options, please contact us via the service line. However, you can make most changes yourself using a .htaccess file in your web directory.

The execution time for PHP scripts (maximum 240 seconds) and the maximum size of a file upload via PHP (up to 2 GB) are also limited.

Only certain RRZ administrators can access the Apache access logs. You can access the Apache error log for your web application(s) as described in the info email about setting up the web space.
