Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Building Information Modeling (BIM) project

BIM helps you create and manage data for building planning, construction, and operations processes. Based on a digital twin, i.e., a 3D model, of the building, all relevant data is collected and connected. The internal infrastructure for planning and communication will be introduced in 2024.

The RRZ provides Universität Hamburg employees with access to database systems upon request. Two open-source products, MariaDb (MySQL) and PostgreSQL, are available. These tools are particularly suited for web applications which require relational databases.

Zoom

Zoom offers encrypted meetings and flexible collaboration via audio call, video call, chat and channels, and Whiteboard. The password-protected Zoom desktop client allows you to hold and record virtual meetings with virtual transcripts.

Certificates

Universität Hamburg employees can request client certificates for digital signatures, email encryption, or server certificates. New certificates can be requested via the GÉANT Trusted Certificate Service (TCS).

WLAN—guest ID

Wekan

Wekan allows you to collaborate via virtual board. Using the Kanban principle, you can create columns for project phases and add “swimlanes.” Cards with tasks can be created from there. You can work collaboratively on this board in real time.

Web2Print

You can create posters, flyers, business cards, and invitations in accordance with Universität Hamburg’s corporate design. No knowledge of graphic software required. Upload the template online, enter your content and place a print order.

Virtual servers

The RRZ offers virtual servers for their own IT services. Virtualization software is used to operate virtual server instances as “guest systems” on the “host system” of a physical server.

Scientific Remote Desktops (SRDs) are RRZ-operated virtual workstations, that facilitate interactive work in a desktop environment. This includes SRDs for the use of hardware that is more powerful than the regular workstation equipment.

The RRZ audio lab offers laptops as mobile editing stations for digital videos. You can borrow these via the equipment rental service with the appropriate lead time.

Universität Hamburg campus app—digital student ID

The student ID needed to be accessible through a digital app instead of the previous paper version, resulting in the initiation of the Hamburger Campus App collaboration project. The project is managed by Section 32: Campus Management in Department 3: Studies and Teaching.

The introduction of a new ticket system will simplify support service request management. Requests will be managed, organized, and sorted by priority. The ticket is aimed at distributing tasks effectively across various areas and at preventing duplicate request processing.

The Softphone software replaces desk phones. The service offers VoIP-based (Voice over IP)connections as an alternative to regular telephones when working from home. The service is currently undergoing extensive testing.

Universität Hamburg offers the open-source product Subversion for centralized version control. Subversion helps you manage document and source code versions through easy configurable access for different users. Use your uni username for lodging an installation request.

Inkscape is a free, vector-based open-source painting program for designing logos, banners, and posters. Compatible with SVG formats, the software can import EPS; PostScript; JPG; PNG; BMP; or TiF photos and export files into vector-based formats.

You can activate an office-email address for your colleagues via the office-email account. Authorized persons can access the entire range of Exchange features, including calendars, dates, etc. and view incoming email separately. This cannot be combined with other accounts.

The RRZ offers a central backup service for self-managed laptops. Data is stored at 2 Universität Hamburg locations. If you want to add new servers, go to the RRZ Service Portal or contact the person in charge.

Adobe Connect is an online meeting service and an alternative to Zoom. It features, among other things, permanent reusable rooms and separate file storage in the Connect server for each meeting so files can be used after the meeting is closed.
