Virtual Servers

The RRZ at the University of Hamburg offers virtualized servers for UHH departments and institutions to use for their own IT services. To do this, they use VMware vSphere (ESXi) virtualization software to run virtual server instances as “guest systems” on the “host system” of a physical machine. Here's what's on offer:

Managed Linux Server

The RRZ can provide you with a virtual machine in the form of a Linux server administered by the RRZ. The RRZ administers the server, you administer the application.

The RRZ can provide you with a virtual server in the form of a Windows server administered by the RRZ. The RRZ administers the server, you administer the application.

Self-Administered Virtual Server

If your requirements cannot be met by a server administered by the RRZ, a virtual server can be provided for you to administer yourself.

Notice

Services offered centrally by the RRZ, such as web and database servers, must be used as a priority. Only if there is a justified reason why the services offered by the RRZ cannot be used may a virtual server be requested.
