Managed Windows Server
The RRZ offers two different operating models for “Managed Windows Server”:
1. Administration by the RRZ
The RRZ manages the following components:
- Windows Server 2022 operating system (older versions only upon justified request)
- Network connection and firewall (both on the server and on the network side “in front” of the server)
- Server equipment (RAM, CPU, disk space)
- Software installations via the RRZ service portal, controlled by a “main user”
2. Administration delegated to a responsible person
The RRZ supports the following components:
- Windows Server 2022 operating system (older versions only upon justified request)
- Network connection and firewall (exclusively on the network side “in front” of the server)
- Server equipment (RAM, CPU, disk space)
The responsible person is tasked with installing, configuring, and regularly patching the desired applications.
The prerequisite for operation with delegated administrator rights is therefore the ability to install, configure, patch, and thus administer software.
The details of the distribution of tasks are agreed upon individually between the responsible persons and the RRZ for the application in question. To this end, a consultation meeting is first held to determine whether a Managed Windows Server is suitable for the planned task and what such an agreement might look like.
We recommend arranging a consultation meeting before submitting your application. If you would like to take advantage of this consultation service, please contact the RRZ's Microsoft team via the RRZ service line.
