Exchange and Mailman Mailing Lists
Exchange and Mailman Distribution lists or mailing lists (the meaning is the same) are used to distribute emails to a larger group of recipients.
Email distribution lists, also known as mailing lists, are a well-established and effective method of speeding up collaboration. With the help of distribution lists, you can better exploit the potential of your specialist group, department, or even your division by exchanging information, discussing projects, or even introducing new ideas for a group, making them extremely useful and popular. (*)
The University of Hamburg's computer center can support you with mailing lists in two ways:
Both types are accessible from outside, i.e. from the Internet, but Exchange distribution lists only use email addresses from the Exchange address book, while Mailman mailing lists can also be set up with external email addresses.
Note:
Only members (user mailbox/group mailbox/other distribution lists/Exchange contacts) who also have a mailbox on the university Exchange system or who are set up on the Exchange system can be entered in Exchange distribution lists – external email addresses cannot be added! Please use a Mailman mailing list for external email addresses!

Shared mailboxes can also be used to provide a general calendar so that multiple users can plan and view vacation times or work shifts. It enables employees in departments that provide central services to employees (such as help desk, human resources, or printing services) to respond to employee questions or to bundle data for project work.
