Häufig gestellte Fragen zur UHHCloud (FAQ)
What are the advantages of the UHHCloud?
The UHHCloud allows you to store, synchronise and share your data in a similar way to Dropbox. The data is stored on our in-house infrastructure.
Can I transfer data to another person?
If data is to be transferred to another person, for example when leaving the university or changing job responsibilities, you can do this yourself via https://cloud.uni-hamburg.de/settings/user/sharing -> ‘Files’ -> ‘Transfer ownership of a file or folder’. The procedure is described in more detail under ‘Transfer files and folders to another account’.
If the owner of the data is no longer able to do this themselves, their manager can open a ticket with RRZ-ServiceLine.
How can I use the UHHCloud?
The UHHCloud is currently available to UHH members with a user ID. Data can be shared and edited jointly with external users.
How much storage space do I have available?
University employees and equivalent persons have 5000 gigabytes of storage space available in the UHHCloud. If necessary for work purposes, this quota can be increased. Please contact the RRZ ServiceLine if required.
Students have 100 GB of storage space available. There are no plans to increase the storage space for students.
What is the maximum file size?
The file size is limited to 150 GB.
Can I also use UHHCloud for private data?
The use of the UHHCloud is permitted exclusively for research, teaching, study, and administrative purposes.
The use of the service is subject to the University of Hamburg's Terms of Use and the UHHCloud Terms of Use.
The preview of PDF documents does not work on my share. What is broken here?
To preview PDF documents, the web browser must download the file and process it locally. This will not work if you are accessing a shared file and the ‘Allow downloading and synchronisation’ checkbox was not selected when the file was shared. Please ask the creator of the shared file to configure this permission so that previewing works.
Is there more documentation on how to use the UHHCloud?
The UHHCloud is based on Nextcloud software and is tailored to the requirements of the UHH. In our articles on these pages, we would like to help you get started and provide content for typical uses at the university. You will also find links to the manufacturer's documentation and other useful information resources.
What happens to my data when I leave the UHH?
When a user account is deleted, all data associated with that account is deleted from the UHHCloud. This also applies to all data belonging to former colleagues that has been shared with others. Such data must be transferred to another account or backed up in another way before leaving the university.
Users are responsible for transferring any necessary data to their colleagues before leaving. UHHCloud offers a self-service option for transferring data to another person. The procedure is described in the answer to the next question.
How can I recover accidentally deleted/overwritten data?
In the UHHCloud, there is a recycle bin at the bottom left of the file app. You can also restore previous versions of a file by clicking on ‘Details’ for the respective file. Please also note the information under ‘Restoring deleted data’.
People with B IDs cannot see data that has been released for them – what should they do?
People with user IDs currently have to log in to UHHCloud once before data can be shared with them. The account is set up during this initial login. After that, data can be shared for this ID.
If the release was created before the initial login, access will not work. Delete the release and release the data again after your colleague has logged in once.
Is my data also protected against disasters such as a fire in the data centre?
The files stored in the UHHCloud are regularly backed up at least two independent locations using the RRZ backup service. This means that they are also protected against fire or other disasters in one of the Regional Computing Centre's server rooms.
My ID is locked - Account disabled in UHHCloud
If you enter an incorrect password five times in UHHCloud, your ID will also be locked in UHHCloud.
This is often caused by an incorrectly configured password in an app – see Using app passwords.
The lock will be lifted after 15 minutes if the ID is not locked in AD.
UHHCloud has its own user database, which is synchronised with the ID database in AD.
If your ID is inactive in AD, it will also be locked in UHHCloud.
