UHHCloud

The UHHCloud is a data storage service operated by the Regional Computing Centre of the University of Hamburg for all members of the University of Hamburg and offers a comprehensive alternative to commercial cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. The IT service is operated entirely by the RRZ of the University of Hamburg in its own data centre.

UHHCloud will completely replace UHHShare as the University's sync+share service by 28 February 2025.

UHHCloud is a sync & share service that allows you to reliably store your data and documents and keep them up to date and accessible worldwide on multiple devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone) (sync). You can also share, exchange and edit your files with other people inside and outside the University of Hamburg. This is done using the Nextcloud product, which is supplemented by an extension for joint and simultaneous editing of documents in Office file formats.

You can access UHHCloud from your web browser at

https://cloud.uni-hamburg.de.

Alternatively to accessing UHHCloud via your web browser, you can use a client for the standard operating systems, an app for mobile devices (Android, iOS), and using WebDAV.

Registration

Use the website below to access UHHCloud:

https://cloud.uni-hamburg.de.

  • Members of the University of Hamburg can click “UHH-Login” and log in using their uni username.
  • External users with guest logins for UHHCloud can log in with your email address, password, and, if applicable, a 2FA by clicking “Anmeldung für Gäste.”

After successfully registering, you will be forwarded to the main page. You can now access the most important services:

UHHCloud Hauptansicht

At the center of this page, you will see the dashboard with different widgets (2). The dashboard can be adjusted as needed. The selection of widgets depends on the availability of apps.

In the upper left-hand corner (3), you can find all apps available on the UHHCloud. Click on the symbol to open the application.

In the upper right-hand corner (4), there are 4 symbols for the following functions:

  • search (magnifying glass)
  • messages (bell)
  • contacts (figures)
  • at the very right a symbol with the user’s initials (large circle with status notifications) This is where you can click to open the sub-menu to adapt your own profile, find further settings, get help, and sign off of the UHHCloud.

Functions

The Nextcloud product used for the UHHCloud offers a range of other functions and apps in addition to handling your data. Examples include calendars, email, password managers, video conferences, chats, forms, project management, and surveys.

The UHHCloud is starting with a focus on the administration of data and files in light of the RRZ resources available for support and administration. Additional functions and apps can be added in the future depending on need, whether the technical conditions are in place, the quality of the app can be secured, if there are sufficient resources, and there are no further conflicts with the RRZ’s other services.
