In short: Your UHH Exchange mailbox works with Office LTSC 2024 and with Microsoft 365. If you use a group mailbox, use Legacy Outlook.

Office on a Mac: two options

• Office LTSC 2024 – request a license via the RRZ ServicePortal (available on the university network or via VPN). Only allowed on UHH work computers. We recommend this option for work computers.
• Microsoft 365 – download Office with your UHH M365 account from the Microsoft 365 portal. Can also be used on private devices. Please do not install it from the App Store.

Older versions: Microsoft ends support for Office LTSC 2021 on October 13, 2026. Office 2016 and 2019 are no longer supported. Please switch to Office LTSC 2024.

macOS: Microsoft supports Office only on the three latest macOS versions. On macOS 14, Office updates will stop soon.

Outlook with your UHH Exchange mailbox

Which version of Outlook you need depends on your mailboxes:

• Only your personal mailbox: new Outlook or Legacy Outlook. Both work.
• A group mailbox as well: Legacy Outlook. UHH group mailboxes do not work in the new Outlook. You can always open them in your browser via Outlook on the web (OWA).

Switching to Legacy Outlook

In the “Outlook” menu, click “Legacy Outlook”. A checkmark next to it means it is active. Accounts you set up in the new Outlook are not transferred. Set up your account as described in the Exchange mailbox guides (German).

How long will Legacy Outlook be available?

From October 2026, Microsoft is ending it only for mailboxes in the Microsoft cloud. According to Microsoft, it will keep working with UHH mailboxes until October 9, 2029, with Office LTSC 2024 and with Microsoft 365. Until then, it only receives security updates.
