Teams FAQ
Password correct but login does not work?
This can happen for technical reasons.
- For Windows devices:
If it has been a while since the device was restarted, please restart it.
Then try to log in normally. - Use the login workaround.
- Clear the Teams cache and then try to log in.
- If this does not help, please contact rrz-serviceline"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
Describe your procedure. Attach a screenshot. This should show:- Error message
- Program and dialog box you are in
- or link to the website you are on
How do I change the visibility of the team?
If a team has been created with “Public” visibility, all UHH users can view the files stored there.
If this is intentional, no action is required.
Changing the visibility of a team
- Open Microsoft Teams and go to your Teams overview.
- Now click on the 3-dot menu (“...”) next to the team name.
- Select the “Edit team” button.
- The visibility of the team can be adjusted in the dialog box under Privacy to “Private – only team owners can add members.”
Why do I see old status of profiles?
Is the status of people not displaying correctly? Does Teams seem to not display all entries in a timely manner often?
This may be because the synchronization of Teams data is not running smoothly at the moment. Microsoft synchronizes via cloud services and loads a lot of information into the Teams cache to ensure smooth operation.
Deleting the Teams cache may help to remedy this.
Windows devices:
If you have not restarted your device for a long time, use the Restart function in the Windows Start menu at the next opportunity.
Unlike shutting down and restarting, this reloads some entries and registries that would otherwise remain outdated.
How can I activate/use apps in Teams?
How can I activate apps?
The Office 365 area at the University of Hamburg is set up so that no products can be purchased from the store.
This also applies to apps in Teams.
For security reasons, these apps must first be checked, which means that apps cannot be added independently.
Please send your requests to rrz-serviceline"AT"uni-hamburg.de for the time being.

Login workaround
If Teams displays “Re-sign in required” or “Additional sign-in information required,” please try the following:
Ensure that you have the correct password for your M365 account. If you have already switched over, this is the password for your user ID.
- Sign out of Teams.

- Do not log in directly using the account displayed. Please use the option “Create or use another account”.

-
Nevertheless, please enter your current login name as usual in the login screen. After December 2025, please use your user ID in the following format: bax1234@uni-hamburg.de.
- Enter the password for the user ID. Teams should now reload the current status of the account and the message or problems should disappear.
If problems persist, please contact the RRZ-ServiceLine.
-> Please note the Login change 1025
Remove Teams cache
(Instructions from Microsoft Support "Clear the Teams client cache" - Follow the instructions for the new Teams.)
Tested for SMDs and FMDs:
- Please sign out of Teams. (Make sure you have the password for your M365 account if you have not yet switched over.)
- Open Explorer (folder) and enter the following folder path at the top:
%localappdata%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\ - Delete the MSTeams folder.
- If this does not work because “one or more applications are still open,” open Task Manager and go to “More details.”
- Sort the processes by name and search for “Microsoft Teams.” Select it and use the “End task” button at the bottom right.
- Now try to delete the folder again.
- Start Teams. This may take a few seconds.
- Log in. (If possible, always use the “Sign in with another account” option, enter your account login name, and log in.
Teams should now pull the current data from the server and have fewer difficulties updating.
