Instructions for Microsoft Windows
Eduroam Wi-Fi access for University of Hamburg members using Windows 10 or later can be configured in two different ways. You can configure Windows using only built-in tools or with the help of additional software.
Recommended Configuration
- Tool-based
- Advantage: Easy configuration
- Disadvantage: Installation of additional software
- You can find the current instructions here
Manual configuration
For experienced users only
- Configuration in two steps:
- 1. Installation of the University of Hamburg CA root certificate
- 2. Configuration of the eduroam Wi-Fi
- Disadvantage: Complex configuration that often needs to be repeated after Windows system updates (see below)
- Advantage: No additional software required
- You can find the current instructions here
Note on Windows system updates
In the event of an operating system upgrade (change of version, e.g., from Windows 7 to Windows 10), one of the semi-annual Windows 10 feature updates, or any other system update, the eduroam access configuration may be corrupted to the extent that establishing a connection is no longer possible.
To restore a working configuration, a reinstallation is required for DFN eduroam CAT; this can be performed without prior uninstallation.
In the case of manual configuration, an existing but defective configuration must first be removed before setting up access again. To do this, please follow steps 30, 31, and 32 of the instructions before reconfiguring access.
Note regarding Windows 10 S
Please note that installing the additional software is not possible on Windows 10 S; therefore, manual configuration is the only option in this case.
